Disability access and inclusion

We are committed to ensure that appropriate universal access is available to the community through all its functions. To assist achievement of this objective, the Shire in partnership with key external stakeholders, has developed the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2010-2013.

The Plan is reviewed annually to enable priorities and programs to be evaluated with due consideration for the annual budgeting process. Council acknowledges that by enabling access for people with disabilities it will provide better access for the community as a whole. Council has a statutory obligation to provide appropriate universal access to its facilities and services, and to ensure that proposals it receives and approves are compliant.

The 2010-2013 Disability Access and Inclusion Plan was adopted by Council on 28 July 2010.

We maintain communication with the community through the Community Access and Inclusion Refernce Group and the Community Networking Group.

The vision for an accessible and inclusive community concentrates on six key areas:

1.  Existing services and events
2.  Access to buildings and facilities
3.  Information and communication
4.  Advice and services
5.  Opportunities to make complaints
6.  Opportunities to participate in any public consultation.

A hard copy of the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2010-2013 can be obtained by contacting the Community Development Officer, on (08) 9780 5239 or email estatz@amrshire.wa.gov.au

The Shire is committed to a culture of innovation, quality and continuous improvement and as such appreciates public feedback.
