Bursary Position

Since its inception in 2003, the annual Youth Bursary concept has been a source of pride for the Shire, culminating with the Local Government Community Services Best Practice Award in 2008. The 12 month scholarship is awarded to an outstanding locally based year 12 graduating student who has an interest in community development, has intentions to progress onto tertiary studies and is willing to undertake gap year employment with the Shire.

The scholarship not only provides valuable life and work experience but allows the recipient to meet Tertiary Study related Commonwealth Youth Allowance requirements the following year. The seven bursary recipients have to date developed positive outcomes across youth, disability access and inclusion, community safety and crime prevention, arts and culture, community events.

Previous Bursary recipients have since undertaken international community development and social work practice, progression toward undergraduate degrees in Law, Arts Management, Journalism, Nursing, and Communications / Performing Arts.

Previous bursars include Naomi Godden (2003), Roxanne Moore (2004), Simon O’Leary (2005), Keely Robertson (2006), Natasha Dixon (2007), Moana Lutton (2008), Connor McLeod (2009) and Amy Burgess (2010).
