Awards and funding grants

At the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River we are committed to delivering quality projects and outcomes to our community.   This effort has been recognised by the following Awards and funding grants:

2010 National Award for Local Government -  Council Business Best Practice; Women in Local Government

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government National Awards for Local Government

The National Awards for Local Government recognise, reward and promote the innovative work of local governments across Australia.  The Shire received this award for their Women in Leadership Program.

 Water Award 2009

The Water Corporation and the Department of Water, with support from ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability Waterwise Council program.

Participant in the Waterwise Council program which aims to build a co-operative working relationship with local governments to promote sound water management and improve water use efficiency in local government and their communities.

ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability - Water Campaign

Participation in the program which aims to improve water quality and promote water conservation as well as build the the capacity of local governmentparticipants to achieve tangible improvements in local governments water management.

Water Award 2008

Water Corporation Award for Excellence and Water Award for Management of Water resources - Small organisation, community  group or individual project.

Creating a large scale rain garden (Bioretention) system in the Shire to ensure the town is capturing the majority of its rain and runoff water for re-use(received $50,000 in Community Grants Council committed $265,000).

Margaret River bio-retention basins

 Department of Sport and Recreation funding 2009

The Margaret River Recreation Centre has been awarding funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation through the CSRFF grant to the value of $396,000.

The funding will go towards the facility development which will include:

  • Relocation of the child care facilities to the front of the complex. This will cater for the crèche, Outside Hours School Care and vacation Care
  • The expansion of the gymnasium
  • The provision of the purpose built group fitness room
  • Upgrade of the kitchen and cafe area
  • Creation of purpose built staff offices
  • Improvement to the outdoor family area
     

Department of Sport and Recreation funding

The Gloucester Park Precinct has been awarded funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation through the CSRFF grant to the value of $86,000.

This will be directed towards the improvement of lighting at the Main Oval and Nippers Oval. The improvements to the Main Oval will accommodate night games to a regional level of competition.
