Flexible work arrangements
The Shire is committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions which enable employees to balance their work-life commitments whilst fulfilling the business needs of the Shire.
Flexible working can increase staff motivation, build better relationships between Shire and its employees, maintain an appropriate level of staff turnover, reduce absence, attract new talent, promote work-life balance, increase employee satisfaction and, in doing so, improve the Shire’s efficiency, productivity and effectiveness.
Our procedure as it may vary from time to time sets out the options available for staff to achieve a work-life balance. The Shire recognises that there may be others, and that the working pattern that may suit any particular individual could be a unique one involving a combination of options:
- Flexible Hours Arrangement
- Annualised Hours
- Compressed Hours
- Job Share
- Quality Part Time
- Phased Retirement
- Telecommuting
- Flexible Leave Arrangement
- Career Breaks
- Purchased / Self Funded additional Annual Leave
- Leave without pay
- Employee Volunteering
- Family Friendly Workplace
- Paid Carer’s Leave
- Paid Parental Leave
- Purchased / Self Funded additional Parental Leave
- Expectant Mothers at Work
- New Mothers at Work
- Fathers at Work
- Employee Wellbeing
The Shire’s Employee Collective Workplace Agreement also provides for flexible work arrangements to those eligible employees:
- Flexible work arrangements – Including Roster Day Off’s, flexi time and annualised hours
- Annual Leave - includes the option for employees to purchase up to an additional 2 weeks (to be deducted from their salary) and also the ability for employees to cash in a portion of annual leave if they so wish.
- Long Service Leave – employees can access their pro-rata accrual at 7 years opposed to 10 years.
- Seasonal worker options – Ability for employees to secure permanent working arrangements over a season i.e. construction and beach lifeguarding.
