The CommunityCONNECT portal is a free resource to provide greater access to the community on community group information. Visitors to the website are able to search for particular types of groups or groups in their area. Groups can register with the Shire and maintain their own group information, as well as include information on meetings and events for the benefit of others in the community.
In an effort to support and build greater strength and capacity within local community and the not for profit sector, the Shire has developed CommunityCONNECT – a volunteer and community group support program. The program has five main objectives (STARR): Supporting, Training, Access to Funding, Resources and Research. Click here for more information.
As of 1 July 2016 the new Associations Incorporation Act 2015 came into effect. This means that every incorporated community group and association will be required to change their constitution to comply with the new rules.
The new law requires associations to update their rules as well as introduce a number of changes regarding financial reporting, governance, privacy, the rules and membership of incorporated associations.
More information about these changes is available on the Dept. Commerce website or by contacting the Dept. Commerce’s Associations Branch on 1300 30 40 74.
