In an effort to support and build greater strength and capacity within local community and the not for profit sector, the Shire has developed CommunityCONNECT – a volunteer and community group support program. The program has five main objectives (STARR):
The Shire's Community Development team is committed to promoting development opportunities and providing ongoing assistance to its volunteers and community groups.
Annually during December the Shire is pleased to host a "Thank a Volunteer Day" celebration to recognise the achievements of volunteers and thank them for their hard work in the community. The event is generally held in the foyer of the Margaret River Administration and Civic Centre. More details are advertised closer to the date.
The lifeblood of any community group is its people. Training and up-skilling committee members is vital to ensure the longevity and financial sustainability of community groups. If your community group would like to receive information on various training courses that are being held throughout the year, make sure you are registered on the Community CONNECT portal to receive automatic updates and information.
The External grants link page is a useful reference that provides Information on various external funding bodies and grants that become available.
