Litter and illegal dumping

Rangers check for illegal dumping of rubbish during regular patrols, and vehicles and trailers en-route to waste disposal sites are targeted for unsafe and insecure loads. They liaise with the Keep Australia Beautiful Council (KABC) WA, work to raise awareness regarding litter control and the correct disposal of waste, and liaise with and assist community groups regarding local litter removal activities.

Dumping of Rubbish

Council is encouraging the community to assist in its crackdown on illegal dumping. Anyone who sees dumping occurring should report the incident to Council, along with the vehicle's licence plate number so that the offenders can be traced. Council is monitoring popular dumping sites in order to identify offenders who face a maximum penalty of $12,000.

This means that incorrectly disposing of lawn clippings in the spare block next door or the park across the road could become a costly venture. Materials typically illegally disposed of in the region include:

  • Construction and demolition waste (eg. bricks, concrete, fencing and timber);
  • Abandoned automobiles, auto parts and tyres;
  • Green waste (eg. prunings, lawn clippings); and
  • General household rubbish.

To report illegal dumping please contact Ranger Services on 08 9780 5286.

Abandoned Vehicles

Abandoned vehicles are an ever-increasing problem, and are frequently left in situations that create dangerous hazards for motorists. Prompt removal is often required, and Rangers work closely with local Police to ensure this is carried out. They trace and contact vehicle owners whenever possible, and arrange towing and/or impounding and disposal of abandoned vehicles
