The installation of the new play unit, pictured below, will occur early in 2021.

The fine sand soft-fall will also be replaced at this time with soft-fall pine chip.  Additional works will be completed to the soft-fall surround enclosing two of the three entrance areas to reduce the amount of soft-fall loss.

These works are part of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River’s playground replacement program. Equipment over 10 years old will be replaced to ensure it is safe and in line with Australian Standards.  We will be replacing with units that match as near as possible to current dimensions and type that exist and to meet the requirements of AS 4685 Playground Equipment.

Weed control within the Shire is a complex task.

A range of techniques are used to manage weeds, including slashing, steam and herbicide application and in limited urban circumstances, manual control. A weed spraying program will commence from August to February, weather permitting.

  • All spraying in Western Australia is regulated by Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and WA Department of Health (DoH).
  • The Shire uses a range of herbicides.
  • The Shire ensures to comply with Health (Pesticide) Regulations 2011 which primarily relate to signage, notification and licensing.
  • The Shire conducts programmed weed eradication programs on roadsides, foreshores and reserves for various reasons. These include asset protection, road user safety, fire mitigation and the control of introduced weed species.
  • Organic farms are responsible for maintaining any required no spray buffers within their private property boundaries.
  • The Shire is unable to commit to “no spraying on verge” requests, however, we aim to minimise herbicide use where practical. By frequently undertaking weed management on your verge and keeping it well maintained as well as free of any environmental weeds, residents can actively assist the Shire and alleviate the need to spray the verge. This assists the Shire in reducing the application of herbicide in front of your property.
  • To identify weeds, the Shire recommends the Smartphone App - MyWeedWatcher. This App enables users to identify and quickly search for a weed according to plant characteristics such as flower colour, leaf shape, and plant type. Please also see
