Community Consultation

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has received a planning application for the proposed Cape to Cape Mountain Bike Race ‘Event Village’ to be held in Reuther Park (Reserve 40107) Margaret River. 

The 2017 Cape to Cape Mountain Bike Race is proposed to be launched with an Event Village at Reuther Park from 11am on Wednesday, 18 October to 9pm on Sunday, 22 October.  The Event Village is a site for competitors, support crew and locals to gather and includes displays and tents, a stage for presentations and live music, a large screen, 8 food trucks & 3 beverage vendors, a licensed pop up bar and entertainment.

A proposed timetable is:

  • Tuesday, 17 October - Set up from 4pm;
  • Wednesday, 18 October - 11am to 7pm - rider registration;
  • Thursday, 19 to Saturday, 21 October - 4pm to 9pm - Event Village opens;
  • Sunday, 22 October 2017 - 6am to 9pm - Event Village would be the hub for the bike race start and finish line on Bussell Highway (Highway road closure from 6am to 4pm to be determined under a separate application to Main Roads WA);
  • Monday, 23 October - 9am to midday - Event Village dismantling;
  • Wednesday, 18 to Saturday, 21 October - parking managed at Gloucester Park;
  • Thursday, 19 October – from 7pm - Event Village secured with fencing and overnight security personnel;
  • Expected daily attendance 500 – 1,000 people.

This proposal has been advertised to provide an opportunity for public comment and it should not be construed that the application has been determined.  The Shire reserves the right to determine the application on its merits having regard to any submissions received in the advertising period.
