Property Address:       Reserve 41545 Surfers Point and The Box, Prevelly and Reserve 8428 Cowaramup Bay Road, Gracetown

The Shire has received an application by Surfing Western Australia to use Reserves at Surfers Point,  the Box in Prevelly and North Point, Gracetown.  Along with associated parking within Reserves at the corner of Caves and Wallcliffe Roads and at Gnarabup Oval.  The  application is for five (5) years, from 2019 to 2023 (inclusive), to hold the annual World Surf League (WSL) International Surfing Event (‘The Margaret River Pro’).

Background and key points relating to the application are provided below:

  • The event is proposed to be held at Surfers Point for a maximum of 31 days (including setup and dismantling) between the months of March – June each year;
  • Surfers Point Reserve is proposed to be used for 31 days;
  • If Northpoint, Gracetown is considered to be suitable for the WSL to hold the surfing competition, the competition will be held for a maximum of 32 hours (4 days) and event infrastructure will remain for a maximum of 20 days (including setup and dismantling of infrastructure);  
  • The public can access all beaches throughout the event;
  • Recreational boats will be able to access all boat ramps during the event;
  • A licensed area is proposed at Surfers Point;
  • Event infrastructure will be set-up in and around the car park of Surfers Point and at the Gracetown boat ramp;
