Users of the Margaret River Skate Park can now access the newly refurbished onsite public toilets after several months of construction warranted a temporary closure of the amenities.

The vastly improved toilet block, which has bright red doors, now features six cubicles – an increase of five from the single loo that was previously available for use.

Community Development Officer Susie Elton said an upgrade to the facilities is a welcome by the families, youths and visitors who frequent the precinct.

“The toilet block has been designed to meet disability access standards in line with the Building Code of Australia, with further consideration given to safety and usability,” she said.

The upgrade constitutes the first stage of the Margaret River Youth Precinct upgrade, which will see improvements made to both the Skate Park and the surrounding grounds.

The sanitary facilities will be serviced daily and open between 7am until 7pm.

Funding for the project is being provided by Lotterywest ($1.3m), Shire of Augusta Margaret River ($650,000) and Margaret River Lions ($25,000).

A community group spearheaded by local resident Rex Maloney is seeking a target of $25,000 to afford additional features and elements for skate park users.
