Statement from Shire of Augusta Margaret River President Pam Townshend

“We understand Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of seven people in Osmington.”

“Specialist units from Perth, including the Homicide Squad and Forensic Crime Scene Unit are working at scene. Police are expected to remain at the residence for an extended period of time.”

“Two firearms have been located at the scene. At this point in time there are no concerns about wider public safety.”

“This incident has shocked our local community to the core.”

“As a small and close knit community, many people are likely to know or be connected in some way to the deceased.”

“What happened today will have a huge ripple effect across our community.”

“The Shire is coordinating a community support service which will be available from tomorrow.”

“We encourage anybody needing support to go to the Margaret River Community Centre, at the Church Gallery on Tunbridge Street where local community support services will be available.”  

“The support service will be open from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.”

“Coming together at this difficult time is extremely important.”

 “Anyone with information regarding this incident, or who saw or heard anything in the Osmington area this morning, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at”
