Residents in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and being encouraged to use pedal power over motor transport in November to enjoy healthier and happier lifestyles.
The push to take a two-wheeled commuter option coincides with WA Bike Month, a WA State Government and WestCycle initiative that seeks to incentivise bike use through a fun competition where participants accrue points to win prizes.
Points can be accrued for kilometres ridden, days participating in the initiative, and for signing up new riders.
Shire of Augusta Margaret River President Ian Earl said individuals, social groups, schools, community groups, and work places are all encourages to get involved.
“Cycling offers a range of benefits for physical fitness and mental health.
“It’s a great social engagement opportunity and it is an environmentally-friendly means of transport.
“The timing of the initiative coincides with some beautiful spring weather here in the south west.
“I encourage you to get out your bike, take it for a spin and enjoy the great outdoors.”
