Community members across the Shire of Augusta Margaret River are being asked to “wave their appreciation” to all volunteers who serve the local community, as part of National Volunteer Week, running 18-24 May.

Shire President Ian Earl said whilst volunteers were unable to gather for a traditional morning tea celebration this year, the community could join in on social media to show their appreciation.

“With around 3100 people carrying out voluntary work for organisations or groups, volunteers really are the backbone of our community,” he said.

"Let’s join in and thank our vollies by posting a friendly photo of you waving on social media using the hashtags #waveforvolunteers and #NVW2020."

Cr Earl expressed his gratitude towards all volunteers in the Shire, saying they were instrumental for many projects, groups, services and facilities to function.

"For many years I have been humbled by the dedicated efforts of community members working across our Shire to assist others making us the tight-knit community that we are,” he said.

“Volunteers give up time at their job and with their friends and families to keep this community safe, prosperous, pristine and vibrant for everyone who lives and visits here."
