Owning a pet is highly rewarding and many people enjoy having a pet for companionship, social interaction and a sense of security. Everyone who owns a pet must be aware of their responsibilities, not only to their pet, but also to the wider community.
Shire Rangers are responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Western Australian Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011 and associated Local Laws. This includes investigating complaints, engaging with the community to provide education and awareness, and taking enforcement action when necessary to ensure the safety and amenity of our community are protected.
The Department of Local Government website provides comprehensive resources to help owners understand their responsibilities in relation to owning a dog or a cat.
