Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out which week my recycling and landfill bins are collected?

The 2020/21 Resource Recovery Guide is your handy guide to which bin is collected each week. To see the calendar which shows alternating weeks of landfill (red lid) and recycling (yellow lid) bin collections please click here.

Your FOGO bin with the lime green lid is collected every week.

Please note there are no bin collections on Good Friday, Christmas Day or New Years Day.

My bin was not collected, what should I do?

If your bin collection has been missed, please contacted the Shire’s kerbside collection contractor Cleanaway on 08 9724 6455.

My rubbish bin has been damaged or stolen, how to I get it fixed or replaced?

If you would like to request a new bin service, order additional bins or report a damaged or stolen bin, please fill out the Bin Order Form at the bottom of the Bin Orders and Requests page. Otherwise, you can call our Customer Service Team on 08 9780 5255 who will be happy to help with your request.

How do I check which bin I should use to dispose of a particular item?

The A-Z Guide to using your bins is an easy reference for sorting your waste. Simply look up an item alphabetically to see whether it should be disposed of in your FOGO, Recycling or Landfill Bin or taken to a specific drop off point.

Click here to see the A-Z Guide to Using Your Bins.

Where can I take eWaste, hazardous waste and other waste that can't go in the bins?

Find out about where to take eWaste, batteries, gas bottles, light globes and tubes, motor oil, mobile phones, paint tins, plant pots, printer cartridges, tyres and more, on the Drop Off Points for Other Waste page.

Disposing of waste correctly helps avoid contamination so thanks for doing your part!

How do I collect FOGO inside the home?

You can store food waste in any container at home such as a bucket or container or you can purchase a kitchen caddy at the local hardware store.

A kicthen caddy bin liner should not be needed as you can simply line the caddy with newspaper to soak up the moisure and keep it clean.

If you feel like you can’t use the service without lining your caddy or container, please ensure the bags you use are 100% compostable as any other type of bag will contaminate the compost.

Empty the caddy into the bin with the lime green lid daily or at least three times a week.

How do I redeem my free compostable caddy liners?

Shire of Augusta Margaret River residents with the 3 bin service can collect 2 x rolls of 25 compostable caddy liners per year from the Shire Offices by presenting a voucher from the back of their Resource Recovery Guide.

To find out more visit the FOGO Bin page.

How do I redeem the up to $100 cashback for Cloth Nappies?

The Shire has introduced a program to help parents choose cloth over disposable nappies. The Shire will subsidise the cost of up to $100* towards the cost of cloth nappies for families who would like to give real nappies a go!

To findout how to claim your Cloth Nappy Subsidy, please see our Waste Education and Events page.
