Margaret River Hockey Club’s dream to ‘bring hockey home’ will come to life later this month with the Official Turf Opening at Gloucester Park Pitch on March 25.
Community members are invited to come along and celebrate the new artificial turf facility adjacent to the Margaret River Bowling Club. The festivities will kick off at 2pm with free skills clinics, raffles, food and beverages, and a special Q&A with Kookaburra’s captain Aran Zalewski and coach Colin Batch. The new facility means locals will no longer have to travel to Busselton to train, improving player participation and contributing to the club’s long-term sustainability. Demand on other sporting zones for all sports suited to a synthetic surface can also be reduced.
The project has provided the hockey community with a number of new assets, including:
- New synthetic multipurpose half hockey pitch
- Perimeter safety fencing
- Training level LED lighting
- Small storage area
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is proud to support this project in partnership with grant funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), Sport Australia Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and contributions from the Margaret River Hockey Club and other local community groups.
