No Fires Permitted in Shire and Permits to Burn Cancelled
The Prohibited Burning Period in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River will begin five weeks early, due to unseasonably dry conditions.
The Shire’s Chief Bush Fire Control Officer has decided the Prohibited Burning Period will commence on Wednesday 22 November 2023 after closely monitoring seasonal conditions in the lead up to the summer bushfire season. The decision means that from lunchtime on Wednesday 22 November, campfires, firepits and the burning of garden refuse piles are not allowed at any time or in any location within the shire, and all current Permits to Burn are cancelled.
The decision comes after an early start to the bushfire season, with local crews were sent to Perth and Peel regions to assist fight bushfires two weeks ago.
Additional measures such as Total Fire Bans and Harvest and Vehicle Movement Bans may also be used to prevent the start of bushfires , and all residents are urged to create a bushfire plan.
