Reducing the amount of energy we use, and where necessary, using energy produced from renewable sources.

Current situation

The residential and business sectors contribute 84% of the communities CO2 emissions which as at 2006 were 83,000 tonnes. The majority of emissions produced are created by the use of electricity.

Our goal (2020)

• 30% reduction in CO2 emissions (Shire)
• 20% reduction in CO2 emissions from the business and residential sectors by 2020

What is the Shire doing?  

The Shire has installed solar photovoltaic systems on the rooftops of the Margaret River Recreation Centre and Library, which provide clean green power. Funds have been budgeted towards continuing to install solar systems on key Shire infrastructure.

How can I help?

• Design your new home for passive heating and cooling.
• Be aware of your energy use. Buy an energy meter, monitor electricity use and adjust behaviour accordingly.
• Install a solar PV system.
• Choose energy efficient appliances.
