Notification of Cancellation for Ordinary Council Meeting 12 March 2014
The Ordinary Meeting of Council, due to be held at 5.30pm Wednesday, 12 March 2014, in the Augusta Council Chambers has now been cancelled.
The next Ordinary Meeting of Council will therefore be held at 5.30pm on Wednesday, 26 March 2014 in Augusta Council Chambers, 66 Allnutt Terrace, Augusta. Items which may be considered at the meeting include*:

PROHIBITED FIRE SEASON: 22 December 2013 – 28 March 2014 (incl.)
Please be advised that the Shire of Augusta Margaret River has extended the “Prohibited Burning Period” until midnight Friday 28/3/2014 (originally 28 February 2014 and previously extended to 14 March).
‘No Fires Allowed’ during this period. This includes campfires and wood fuelled BBQs and applicances. Gas BBQs are permitted to be used during this period.

At the 12 February 2014 Ordinary Meeting of Council, Council adopted the following new Policies for public comment:

• Community Usage of the Cultural Centre

Augusta health and wellbeing programs
Please note Augusta Recreation Centre program times are as follows:
Hydro Pool - Tues & Thurs: 9.50am – 12.20pm
Living Longer Living Stronger - Tues: 1pm – 3pm, Thurs: 8.30am – 9.30am
Community Development Grants - now open!
The Shire’s Community Development Grants (CD Grants) is a small grants program totalling $10,000 per annum, offering up to $1,000 to assist Not for Profit, community and service based organisations with events, activities and organisational development.
The 2013-2014 round of the Community Development Grants are open until Friday 7 March 2014.
Please report all shark sightings directly to the Water Police on 9442 8600. This number is staffed 24 hours, seven days a week and will activate any required response.
Anyone wanting to receive alerts about shark sightings in the Margaret River area can follow @SLSWA on Twitter or refer to the Surf Life Saving WA facebook page.
People are asked to refrain from phoning rangers direct for updates as these phone lines need to be available to coordinate shark sight response activities.
More information about the shark sighting response plans and procedures can be found on the Department of Fisheries website.
Shire works updates - February 2014
- The playground at Memorial Park will be closed from 13-28 February while the Shire of Augusta Margaret River completes an equipment renewal. This will include new playground equipment, fencing and some additional landscaping.
- Fisher Road – works currently underway, traffic delays, proceed with caution
Road works are being carried to connect John Archibald Drive to Beech Drive and the Bussell Highway Roundabout. It is anticipated that works will be complete by the end of March (weather permitting). Individual property access should not be affected. The Shire Works Coordinator will contact residents, if necessary to discuss issues and make alternative arrangements prior if required. To enquiries about these works phone the Shire’s Works Coordinator on 9780 5255 or 9780 5650.

As from 1 November 2013 the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River commenced enforcement the Cat Act 2011.
