About Operating Grants 

Operating Grants provide a financial contribution towards the operation and administration costs of incorporated community-based, not-for-profit organisations who provide long term, strategic services within the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

Applications for Operating Grants are currently closed. 

Operating Grants cover three areas including: 

  • Community Organisation Operating Grants (up to $30,000)*
  • Environment and Sustainability Operating Grants (up to $45,000)*
  • Sustainable Economy Operating Grants (up to $30,000)*

To be eligible, organisations must deliver services that align with one or more of the Shire’s Community Strategic Plan 2040, Focus Areas (pages 26-31) and address at least one priority area, as follows:


Operating Grants priority areas

Priority areas:
  • Mental health and wellbeing.
  • Community and social capacity building, information and support.
  • Arts and cultural development programs that foster artistic development and community engagement.

Priority areas:
  • Biodiversity protection and improvement
  • Waterway health
  • Coastal management and protection
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Environmental education and capacity building

Priority areas:
  • Business or industry capacity building, information, and support
  • Industry sustainability or circular economy initiatives
Eligibility

Eligibility

Organisations will be considered if they:

  • Are an incorporated community-based, not-for-profit organisation.
  • Are located and deliver services within the boundaries of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
  • Can address one of the key priority areas within one of the categories.
  • Have no outstanding, overdue grant acquittals or unspent funds owing to the Shire.
Business Grants

Grants will be considered for costs that include:

  • Office supplies e.g. stationary
  • Purchase of capital i.e. equipment and office furniture to a max $2,000 per item
  • Utilities
  • Rent
  • Insurance i.e. building, contents and public liability
  • Staff i.e. staff salaries, insurance, professional development and work-related travel costs
  • Volunteer insurance, professional development and work-related travel costs
  • Vehicle costs i.e. leases, insurance, petrol and maintenance
  • Advertising, publicity and promotional costs.

Grant recipients

2022-23 

Successful recipients of Community Organisation Operating Grants for 2022-23 included Augusta Community Development Association up to $5,000, The Creative Corner $34,000, Radio Margaret River $21,000 and Undalup Association $49,000. All amounts include GST.

2023-24

Community Category: Augusta Community Development Association $8,000, Cowaramup Men’s Shed $9,000, Just Home Margaret River $20,000, Mindful Margaret River $20,000, Margaret River Community Pantry $12,000, Margaret River Concert Band $1,400, Margaret River District Club $5,000, Radio Margaret River $10,000 and Woven Cowaramup $4,500.

Environment and Sustainability Category: Undalup Association Inc, $45,000.

Sustainable Economy Category:  Margaret River Regional Producers Association $20,000, Margaret River Business Network $20,000 and Margaret River Wine Association $10,000, with $5,000 already allocated to the Margaret River Business Network Business Awards.
