Local Students Caring for Boodja

Over 240 year six students from local schools presented their awesome environmental projects yesterday at the annual Our Patch event at Nala Bardip Mia (Margaret River HEART).

After learning about local areas (their ‘patch’) with experts through Nature Conservations Our Patch program, each school devised solutions to different environmental issues.

Presentations included:
•    Augusta Primary School - Western Ringtail Possums, possum dreys, ‘Weed Busters’ and a song.
•    Margaret River Independent School - White-bellied Frogs and t-shirts (designed and printed to fundraise for frog conservation).
•    Margaret River Primary School - pet cats and dogs, ‘catios’, tv show, pet pledge and info cards with QR codes.
•    Montessori Primary School - quenda, quenda corridors, motion-sensor cameras and a poem.
•    Rapids Landing - owls and the use of owl friendly rat baits, a petition and puppets.
•    Cowaramup Primary School Carnaby's, Baudin's and Forest Red-tailed cockatoos and bird nest boxes (building, installing and monitoring).

Some of the students work is on display in the Shire office in Margaret River. Well done to the Our Patch Officers, local experts, schools, teachers, students and everyone else involved!

The Shire is a proud supporter of the Our Patch program and this annual event.
