Update on Prevelly Coastal Art Trail sculpture – Layla
Layla is by artist Russell Sheridan and has been a feature of Prevelly Rockpools since 2013.The beachside artwork has recently experienced damage to the lower half of the sculpture.
We know how deeply loved this artwork is and appreciate the strong connection many in our community share with it.
We are working closely with the artist to restore the sculpture, with repairs planned to begin after winter, once the weather is dry and conditions are suitable for restoration work.
A feature of the Prevelly Coastal Art Trail, Layla draws locals and tourists alike with her unique presence and story.
Described as "the great-granddaughter of the surf god Huey," Layla watches over sea creatures and those who venture into the ocean. She is a mythical guardian of the waves, known for guiding lost surfers to safety and swimming the world’s oceans to protect those in need.
Shire President Julia Meldrum said she looks forward to her restoration and continued presence.
"Layla is a symbol of our community's connection to the sea.”
