The next phase of consultation on the Turner Street Jetty is now open, and community members from across the Shire are being asked to provide feedback on the restoration plans.
In March 2025, the jetty was closed to the public due to safety and structural concerns related to the age and condition of the structure. Since then, we have been exploring potential options for the future of the site.
A volunteer Community Reference Group was established in autumn 2025 to provide input on the preferred way forward.
They reviewed several options, including repairing the existing structure, replacing it with a fixed or floating jetty, or removing it entirely.
Feedback from the group was clear and overwhelmingly in favour of a like-for-like restoration of the fixed timber decked jetty structure, which is estimated to cost around $660,000.
To proceed, funds would need to be reallocated from other infrastructure projects, meaning those marine assets, such as the Turner Street foreshore wall replacement, would be delayed until future budgets.
We want to check that people across the Shire support the idea before we commit the funds.
