There is no free camping permitted within the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
Under the Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Act 1995, it is an offence to camp, other than in a registered Caravan Park or Camping Ground. "Camp" is defined as meaning any portable shed or hut, tent, tent fly, swag, awning, or any other portable thing used as, or capable of being used for habitation, and includes sleeping in a vehicle.
Camping or sleeping in your vehicle, motor home, campervan or caravan overnight is not permitted in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River unless you are using a caravan park or designated camp ground. This includes all State or National Parks, local reserves, beaches, road sides and car parks. Every person found to be camping in a vehicle may be issued a $100 on the spot fine.
Please note, there are no designated Main Roads 24 hour roadside rest areas within the Shire of Augusta Margaret River so please plan your trip wisely to ensure you arrive safely and are not caught without without somewhere to stay upon arrival.
