Construction milestone reached for Turner Street Jetty

We will begin works to restore the Turner Street Jetty next week

The jetty was closed in March 2025 following assessment from an independent marine engineer that found serious structural deterioration.  

Since the jetty's closure, the Shire has worked closely with a passionate group of community members to develop a plan to restore the jetty on a like-for-like basis. 

With approvals secured and a contractor appointed, the project has now reached its next major milestone. Construction is expected to commence in October 2026 and be complete in summer. During this first phase of works, the timber from the existing jetty will be carefully removed and assessed. Where possible, suitable materials will be incorporated into the new jetty, while remaining timber will be retained for potential community projects. 

Shire President Julia Jean-Rice said that she was excited to see the first stage of the restoration underway.   

“The jetty has been closed to the public since early last year, and I know I speak on behalf of everyone at the Shire when I say we’re so pleased to know that the community will be able to enjoy the new jetty this coming summer,” said President Jean-Rice.  

“Community support for this project has been clear, with 92% of respondents to our survey backing a like-for-like replacement of the Turner Street Jetty.  

“People wanted a safe, practical jetty that still feels like the one they know and love, and that’s what we are going to deliver. 

“Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing the kids of Augusta enjoying the jetty on warm summer evenings!” 

Turner Street Jetty Community Working Group member Katherine Davis thanked the community for helping to move the project forward. 

“Thank you to everyone in our community who showed how much they care about Turner Street Jetty – by turning up, sharing photos and getting behind the campaign on social media,” said Ms Davis.  

“Working together with the Shire and the amazing reference group, we got this project over the line. We did it, and future generations will be able to enjoy it too.”
