In 2025 Shire staff, working closely with community representatives – the Illegal Camping and Peak Season Working Group – developed a three year roadmap to address illegal camping and peak season pressures.
One of the actions identified in the roadmap for the 25-26 season was a peak season closure of the Barrett Street Weir car park. In response to community feedback collected in early 2026, the initial proposal was amended and a dusk to dawn closure of the Weir was trialed from February to April 2026.
We are now seeking community feedback to understand how the trial went and whether local residents and the broader community are keen to see the closure continue in future years.
We want to hear from the community to find out:
• What did people think of the closure?
• Did it have any impact on anti-social behaviour and illegal camping at the Wier?
• Should it continue for future summer seasons?
We would appreciate you sharing your thoughts, suggestions and insights. For more information and to have your say please visit Barrett Street Weir Trial Closure | Have Your Say Augusta Margaret River before 5pm on Wednesday 15 July.
