Reading Rabbits hopping into schools again in 2026

Our popular Reading Rabbits program is inspiring young readers again in 2026, with Youth and Children’s Librarian Rachael visiting seven local schools over the last few months

The program encourages year 1 students to discover the joy of books and reading through visiting their local public libraries then choosing books to borrow and read.

During term one visits, students receive a Reading Rabbits pack with library information, colouring activities and a rewards card. They can collect a stamp each time they visit the library, with a $10 Margaret River Bookshop voucher given after eight visits.

Home-schooled and Montessori students can join by collecting a pack from their local library.

Since launching in 2010, the program has supported thousands of young readers and continues to be a fabulous local partnership. It is funded by the Rotary Club of Margaret River, Margaret River Bookshop and Shire Libraries.

If you have a child in year 1 head down to your local library, choose a book to borrow and start collecting stamps.

For older children, the Book Bandicoots program is also available, offering additional reading rewards for ages 7-17. Simply ask the friendly library staff for more information.
