Check permit requirements before burning
The Shire is scheduled to enter the spring/summer Restricted Burning Period on Monday 9 November 2026. The period is currently expected to run until Tuesday 22 December 2026, subject to weather conditions.A Permit to Burn is required for most outdoor burning during this period. Permits are free. Contact your local Fire Control Officer to apply and allow time for your application to be assessed.
What can I do without a permit?
During the spring/summer Restricted Burning Period, the following activities do not require a permit if all conditions are met:
- Small garden refuse burns: You may burn one pile of up to one cubic metre. Only light it between 6pm and 11pm and fully extinguish it before midnight that day. Keep the area within 5 metres of the fire clear of flammable material.
- Campfires, firepits, wood or solid fuel barbecues and pizza ovens: Keep the fire at least 3 metres from logs or stumps and clear all flammable material within a 3 metre radius of its centre. On Shire reserves, these fires are only permitted in designated areas.
