We’re trialling beach access matting at Gracetown Swimmers Beach

This summer, we’re making it easier for everyone to enjoy the beach.

From 17 December 2025 to 2 February 2026, we’re trialling beach access matting at Gracetown Swimmers Beach to improve access for people with disabilities, those with limited mobility, and families with prams.

The matting is installed at the main entrance to Swimmers Beach, and you’ll see temporary signage to help guide you. Please keep the space free for those who need it most.

We’ll be checking the matting regularly, but if you notice any issues such as loose pegs or sand blocking the path please call us on 08 9780 5667 or email [email protected].

This trial is a direct response to community feedback. Beach access was the top priority in our Access and Inclusion Plan 2023-2027, and we’ve worked with the Inclusive Community Access Network (ICAN) and independent experts to make it happen.

Forty metres of matting has been installed. We’d like to thank Enable WA for loaning thirty metres of matting and ICAN for their ongoing advice. To create a safe gradient, we’ve temporarily removed a small section of rocks, which will be reinstated after the trial.

We’d love to hear what you think. Share your experience via our short survey here.

Location: Gracetown Swimmers Beach (see map)

Please note: Beach matting can shift with coastal conditions and foot traffic, which might affect how easy it is to use. Not all wheelchairs or mobility devices will work well on the matting, so please keep this in mind. Please share any feedback with us so we can keep improving.
