A very special book launch

Western Australia has 12 new authors — and they live right here in Augusta-Margaret River

Earlier this week, the community came together to celebrate twelve local authors who have each written and illustrated their own 32-page book.

The authors are part of Artzability, a unique program that delivers weekly arts activities for adults living with disability and providing a meaningful opportunity for connection and belonging within the wider community.

Under the guidance of The Book Incubator, each author created a book to share a story about their life. Using photography, collage, painting, and text, each publication reflects who the author is and offers a unique window into their life.

The sold-out laucnh event featured author talks, readings, singing, dancing, and book signings, and celebrated not only the authors themselves, but also their dedicated support workers who guide them throughout the creative process.

Founded almost 20 years ago, Artzability’s purpose may be to enrich the lives of people living with disability, but on Monday night, they enriched everyone who attended.  Watch the highlight reel here.

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River was proud to support this project through our Community Development Grant program, to share the stories of these extraordinary community members.
