Australia’s top country cricketers heading to Shire

Get ready, cricket fans - Australia’s best are heading to the Margaret River region this January!

Australia’s top country-based cricketers are heading to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River this January for the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships.

The tournament is played at various locations around Australia, and this year will be held in the Margaret River region

The Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships brings together the nation’s best regional male and female cricketers to represent their state or region in a series of One Day (50-over) and Twenty20 matches. The Shire, together with the City of Busselton, will host the men’s tournament in 2026 and the women’s tournament in 2027.

From 3 to11 January 2026, more than 200 players are expected to play across venues including Gloucester Park, Cowaramup Oval, Barnard Park, Bovell Oval and the Dunsborough Playing Fields.

Shire President Julia Jean-Rice said the Shire was thrilled to welcome the prestigious event to the region, made possible through a strong partnership between WA Cricket, local government and dedicated local clubs.

“This is the first time the Championships have come to our Shire, and it’s an incredible chance for locals and visitors to watch top-tier cricket on home turf,” she said.

Established in 1986, the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships have a proud history of highlighting regional talent and celebrating the vital role of local clubs and associations in the game. Previous tournaments have been held in Newcastle, NSW (2024) and the Barossa Valley, SA (2025).

The Shire is proud to support WA Cricket in hosting this event through its Major Events Grants Program.
