Bushfire Vollies Prepare for a Hot Summer

With predictions of severe heat as we head into an El Nino climate pattern, our local bushfire volunteer firefighters are preparing for a busy summer.

Training for new and current vollies has continued throughout the winter, so all teams are skilled up and confident in advance of the hot summer conditions.

Over the last few months our 17 new recruits have attended numerous courses with a strong focus on personal safety. Topics have included Crew Protection, Map Reading, Communications and Safety Awareness. Current members have also refreshed their knowledge with courses including Ground Controller, Incident Controller, Plantation Fire Fighting and Machinery Supervision. The Brigades are also ramping up crew training with appliance familiarisation, burnover drills, response tactics and strategies as well as response and suppression protocols.

Our bushfire vollies are true local heroes, and we’re incredibly grateful for their ongoing commitment to the protection of our community.

If you’re interested in joining one of our Bush Fire Brigades, contact the Shire’s Community Emergency Services Manager Adam Jasper on [email protected].
