Construction of the next stage of the Cape Leeuwin Trail will commence in late July 2025, marking a major milestone in the Shire’s long-term vision to connect Augusta’s town centre to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.
The 3.1 km shared-use trail between Dead Finish and the Water Wheel Carpark will provide a safe, scenic and accessible route for walkers and cyclists. The project is expected to be complete in late 2025.This initiative is supported by a WA Bicycle Network Grant and aligns with regional strategies to improve trail connectivity, promote sustainable tourism and enhance community wellbeing.
Environmental consultants have been engaged to ensure the protection of rare flora and fauna, and successful rehabilitation of degraded areas.
Temporary closures:
- Leeuwin Road scenic lookout and the carpark opposite Water Wheel will be closed during construction.
- Access points between Dead Finish and the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse may be temporarily inaccessible. Signage will be in place.
This extension is the result of over 20 years of community interest and more than a decade of planning.
