Today, on Thank a Volunteer Day, we say a heartfelt thank you to the incredible volunteers who make our community stronger, more connected and vibrant.
Across the Shire, volunteers give their time and energy to support arts and events, environment, community facilities, library services and more, and their impact is huge.Arts Margaret River has more than 200 registered volunteers who have contributed over 4,000 hours in the past year, helping deliver 404 events and welcoming 47,225 patrons. From cinema screenings and live theatre to concerts and gallery openings, volunteers have been there every step of the way ushering, serving at the bar, checking tickets and assisting behind the scenes.
Our Friends of Reserves groups are just as amazing, with around 100 volunteers caring for local reserves and natural areas. They’ve contributed roughly 2,000 hours to activities like weed control, planting, erosion management and environmental monitoring – vital work that protects and develops our natural environment.
At the Library, 25 volunteers keep things running smoothly by shelving thousands of returned items (over 121,000 borrowed last year). Some also help in the garden, cover books and even play guitar at children’s events. Their support means staff can spend more time helping visitors.
Margs Youth Collective, a passionate group of young volunteers made a big impact this year, helping at five community events across the Shire. Their involvement not only supported local activities but also encouraged other young people to step up, volunteer and develop leadership skills.
Just a glimpse of the volunteers who make a big difference in our community – there are so many more out there doing great work. To every volunteer, thank you. Your generosity and commitment make a real difference.
