Safeguarding your property safeguards our community
Bushfires can happen anywhere in the Shire, so wherever you live, you need to take action to protect your home and keep our community and volunteer firefighters safe.
This means maintaining your gardens and reducing the amount of fuel close to your home by creating an Asset Protection Zone (APZ). An APZ is like a safety barrier that makes it harder for a bushfire to reach a house and reduces the risk of from ember attack.
You also need to install and maintain a firebreak between 30 November 2025 and 12 May 2026 to ensure emergency vehicles can safely access your land in the event of an emergency. Shire Rangers will begin inspecting Firebreaks and Asset Protection Zones (APZ) on 1 December 2025.
More information about Firebreaks and a list of fire-compliance contractors can be found on the Firebreak Notice and Requirements page or contact Ranger Services on (08) 9780 5695.
