Grants open to connect and protect Augusta Margaret River

Applications are now open for our Community Development & Events Grants and Environmental Management Fund Grants.

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is offering up to $330,000 in financial support for local initiatives that empower the community and protect the region’s unique natural environment.

Applications are now open for the Shire’s Community Development and Events Grants and Environmental Management Fund Grants, which form part of the broader Shire Grants Program, which also include Community Partnerships and Major Events Grants.

Shire President Julia Jean-Rice said the two funding streams aim to respond to local needs and enhance what makes the region a great place to live.

“These grants are about looking after the people in our community and the place we call home,” she said.

“We want to support individuals, organisations and community groups to deliver local projects and events that make a meaningful difference to our growing community and care for our natural environment.

Around $180,000 will be allocated through the Community Development and Events Grants to support projects and events that foster resilience, connection, and wellbeing, including $50,000 specifically for townsite activation to bring our town centres to life.

“We’d especially love to hear from groups who are keen to help us activate our towns over the Christmas period, whether that’s through street parties, larger events or any other fun creative ideas the community can come up with!” said President Jean-Rice.

A further $150,000 is available through the Environmental Management Fund (EMF) Grant Program for initiatives which drive sustainability and protect our natural environment.

While some funds are already committed through existing multi-year agreements, President Jean-Rice encouraged applications for new projects, programs and events.

“We want to create diverse opportunities for people to come together on Boodja to celebrate, connect or learn new skills,” President Jean-Rice said.

“As a biodiversity hotspot, it’s vital that we not only protect our natural environment through projects such as revegetation, strategic weed control, or coastal management, but also increase sustainability initiatives that reduce waste and emissions.

“These grants are a fantastic opportunity for community organisations to bring their ideas to life, whether that’s delivering engaging events, supporting wellbeing programs, or protecting our unique environment.  This, in turn, supports our community and will help us preserve what we all love about Augusta Margaret River.”

Community groups, organisations, and individuals are encouraged to find out more and download grant guidelines and application forms via www.amrshire.wa.gov.au/grants.

Applications close at 5pm, 13 May 2026.
