We are inviting community feedback on a proposed trial closure of the Barrett Street Weir car park during the peak season.
The proposal forms part of a series of recommended actions developed by the Peak Season Community Working Group for the 2025–26 summer period. The Working Group has been exploring ways to reduce the impacts of illegal camping and address increasing pressures during the busiest months of the year.
One of the key recommendations is the installation of a lockable gate at the entrance to the Barrett Street Weir car park. The gate would restrict unauthorised vehicle access and deter illegal camping. If supported, the gate would be installed for a trial period running from February to April, during which community feedback will be actively collected.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to have their say by completing the online feedback form available on our Your Say page www.yoursay.amrshire.wa.gov.au/weir-closure.
Submissions close Monday 12 January 2026.
