Join us for a firewise garden demonstration in Gracetown

Did you know that a beautiful garden can serve as a bushfire barrier?

With the right principles, you can have a garden that’s not only beautiful but also protects your home during the bushfire season.

To inspire and empower our residents to create beautiful firewise gardens, we’ve partnered with The Forever Project to host a firewise garden demonstration workshop in Gracetown.

Located opposite Gracie’s General Store, this high-profile area was earmarked for a new garden – presenting a fantastic opportunity to not only create a firewise garden but also to bring our community together so you can see the real ways you can implement these firewise principles into your own home.

We’re excited to invite you to come get involved:

  • Prefer to be hands on? Join us on Friday 1 August at 9.30am to help us with the planting and mulching, while learning about the benefits of firewise gardens. Spots are limited so please RSVP here. Please also bring gloves and a water bottle.

  • Keen to attend our community launch event and workshop? Join us on Saturday 2 August at 11am to 12pm to hear from Chris Ferreira, Founder of the Forever Project. The workshop will cover firewise landscaping practices, creating defensible spaces and the use of fire-retardant plants and materials. There will be an opportunity to participate in some planting so please bring some gloves if you would like to get involved. No RSVP is needed for the Saturday event – just come along on the day!

We encourage you to walk or ride down, or alternatively if you are driving, please park at the beach and walk down.

Can’t make the event, but keen to learn more about firewise gardens? The site will include educational signage to empower residents to create and install their own firewise landscapes as part of their bushfire preparedness.
