
The Western Australia Margaret River Pro, one of three Australian stops on the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), makes its much-anticipated return from 17–27 May.
Over 11 days of world-class surfing at the iconic Surfers Point in Prevelly, the event will showcase the region as a premier destination for both tourism and surf, while supporting local businesses, strengthening community ties and nurturing sustainability efforts.The Western Australian Margaret River Pro has been held in Margaret River in various forms since 1985 and the 2025 event marks the eleventh year of Western Australia hosting a round of the prestigious World Championship Tour.
With an estimated injection of over $8 million into the regional economy, Shire President Julia Meldrum said the surf competition is a proven drawcard for the community.
"We know how important this event is for our South West economy, bringing in great job opportunities and providing valuable boosts to local operators and businesses,” she said.
“The annual event attracts thousands of visitors and showcases the beauty of our region to audiences around the world through its online broadcast and global media coverage. The continued presence of this event in the surfing calendar cements Margaret River's reputation in the surfing world and we’re stoked to welcome people from around the globe back to Main Break this year.”
Spectators heading to Surfers Point can grab food and drinks from local favourites like Hooked Up Fish and Chips, Ma La Dumplings, Inspired Feasts, The Local Squeeze, Little Sip Margaret River and much more. There’s plenty to keep you fuelled while you watch the world’s best surfers take on the iconic break.
The Western Australian Margaret River Pro is not only an important event in the world of surfing, but also a celebration of the area's passionate community, stunning landscapes and local spirit. It is a special event for the budding surfers in the region and a major source of inspiration for our youth.
This year, the WSL is teaming up once again with Surfing WA to bring a vibrant lineup of community-focused events to life. Highlights include the Rising Tides Girls Program, Healthway’s Think Mental Health Workshop, the Western Australia Board Caddy Program, and expanded involvement from local boardriders clubs, community groups and volunteers across the region.
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is a biodiversity hotspot known for its natural beauty, pristine beaches and world-class waves – the whole community works together to help protect this unique environment.
Throughout the event, the WSL and the world’s top surfers will partner with the Shire and local, grassroots group Nature Conservation Margaret River to help rehabilitate this beautiful coastline, hosting environmental forums and workshops onsite.

WSL Asia Pacific President Andrew Stark said the World Surf League is excited to be returning to WA for this year’s Western Australia Margaret River Pro.
