Planning Underway for Wadandi Track Upgrades

Planning begins for $17.5 million investment in Wadandi Track

Planning is underway to complete the 110km Wadandi Track, after the State Government committed $17.5 million to the project as part of its $165 million Outdoor Adventure Tourism package in May 2024.

The Wadandi Track is a multipurpose walking and bike riding trail which showcases the heritage of the former Busselton to Flinders Bay Railway. Within the Shire it currently runs between Cowaramup and Sebbes Road and was renamed in 2015 to recognise the traditional owners of the land.

The Department of Transport is working with the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, the City of Busselton and other stakeholders to deliver the project, which will include new and refurbished bridges, several smaller water crossings, new and upgraded sections of track, fencing as well as wayfinding, interpretation and activation.

Shire of Augusta Margaret River’s Manager Asset Services David Nicholson said initial meetings had considered options for project governance and delivery, and noted considerable pre-planning has already been undertaken.

“Over the past decade the Augusta-Margaret River Shire and the City of Busselton have done considerable pre-planning which provides a solid starting point to develop the project.

“This means, while some of the project’s budget will be used to ensure the planned works comply with all of the latest construction standards and obtaining relevant approvals, the majority of the funding can be allocated to actual works.”

The project will be delivered over the next four years.
