Prohibited Burning Period starts this week

No burning of any kind, any where, at any time from 23 December 2025

No burning of any kind – including campfires, firepits and fuel reduction burns – will be allowed anywhere, at any time in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River with the Prohibited Burning Period coming into effect on 23 December 2025.

The Shire announced that the Prohibited Burning Period will commence at 12:01 am on 23 December 2025 and remain in effect until 14 March 2026, unless otherwise advised. All current Permits to Burn are also cancelled.
Shire President Julia Jean-Rice urged residents and tourists to be vigilant.

“To keep our community safe, the rule is simple. No fires, any where, any time,” said President Jean-Rice.
“Whether you live here or are visiting over the summer, please do the right thing. You don’t want your actions to cause a bushfire.”

President Jean-Rice also encouraged all residents to have a Bushfire Plan.

“A bushfire plan is a simple outline of what you’ll do if a bushfire starts. It should only take 15 minutes to prepare and will help you to stay calm if an emergency does happen and avoid risky last-minute decisions.”

She noted that additional measures, such as Total Fire Bans and Harvest and Vehicle Movement Bans, will be used when warranted to prevent bushfires starting.

More information on fire preparedness and fire requirements during the Prohibited Burning Period can be accessed online via the fire and emergency management page on the Shire’s website.
