Planning application for backpackers 

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has received a planning application for Backpackers (Demolish and Redevelop) at 93 (Lot 4) Bussell Highway, Margaret River.

The proposal includes:

  • Removal & redevelopment of Local Heritage Place - Place No MR(T)-20 - The Tin House
  • Double-storey frontage with verandahs and pitched gable roof for heritage-inspired appeal. Features a preserved gum tree as a natural gathering space.
  • Street-Level Interaction – with reception, kitchen, lounge, and outdoor seating open to Bussell Highway.
  • 10 ensuite rooms (including 1 accessible and 1 manager’s room).
  • 10 dormitory rooms for up to 56 guests.
  • Total Capacity: 20 rooms accommodating up to 75 people.
  • Portion of building height (roof) exceeding Local Planning Scheme 1’s 10m height limit
  • An 8 car bay shortfall – the applicant is seeking 19 on-site bays via Ned Higgins Lane.
