Doors Open March 25 for Everything Except Pool
After a long wait, the Margaret River Recreation Centre building will reopen on Monday 25 March.
Following a major refurbishment, doors will open from 6am, with the full timetable of Group Fitness classes resuming from day one.
The Centre and its pool has been closed since late 2022 for a renovation initiated by the need to address significant structural deterioration of the 25-year-old pool roof. The building has essentially been rebuilt from the ground up to create a contemporary, functional centre to serve the community into the future.
Existing facilities have been overhauled to improve accessibility and deliver a quality, durable and low maintenance building. Key accessibility improvements include new accessible ramps at the centre’s entrance and reconstruction of the existing accessible toilets to current standards. Bathrooms have been completely refreshed with new tiles and fixtures, additional windows have been added throughout the complex and new state-of-the-art gym equipment has also been installed in gym.
The new building also features a stand-alone café at the entrance of the building, surrounded by decking and adjacent to an enclosed grassed playground. Designed to operate independently, the café space presents a fantastic opportunity for a local entrepreneur or business owner. A tender process will be undertaken in coming months to find a suitable operator.
While it was anticipated the pool would also open on Monday, a leak in the balance tank means the pool is unfortunately not ready. A specialist contractor has been engaged to undertake the repairs although an opening date is yet to be confirmed (read more here).
Once the pool is ready, the Shire will announce a community celebration and opening event.
