Ross River Virus in the Southwest

WA Health has warned that RRV has been detected in mosquitoes collected from Leschenault to east Busselton - numbers of mosquitos are increasing due to the warmer weather.

It hasn’t been detected in the Shire yet, but WA Health advises that we should apply mozzie repellent, wear protective clothing and remove water holding containers from around the house and garden to keep them at bay.

Additional suggestions are:
  • Install insect screens on houses and caravans.
  • Keep grass/weeds and other vegetation short.
  • Avoid outdoor exposure to biting mozzies – particularly dawn and early evening.
