Shire Residents Recognised for Distinguished Community Service

Three residents from within the Augusta Margaret River Shire were honoured for their contribution and commitment to local community at various events held on Australia Day.


Cowaramup resident, Don Miller was recognised at a national level, receiving an Order of Australia medal for service to the community of Cowaramup. 

Cowaramup Lions also held their annual award ceremony with Ashley Hammond receiving the Col Duggan Citizen of the Year Award, and Angus Webster receiving the Kevan Gray Young Achiever of the Year from the Cowaramup Men’s Shed. 

Shire President Paula Cristoffanini applauded the award recipients.

“On behalf of the Council, I’d like to thank these individuals for their extremely valuable contributions.
“It’s fantastic to see public recognition of their dedication and contribution towards making this a special place to live,” she said.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services Area Manager for the Lower South-West, Peter Thomas, for receiving an Australian Fire Service Medal.

“Peter is extremely deserving of this national award, and we thank him for his service,” she said.

The Australian Fire Service Medal recognises emergency services staff and volunteers, who have shown exceptional commitment to their role.
