RMR Christmas Street Party returns thanks to Shire sponsorship

It's official. Santa will be back, and we're stopping traffic for the party of the year!

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is delighted to be the major sponsor and presenting partner of the Radio Margaret River (RMR Christmas Street Party, providing the funding and support that enables this much-loved community event to return.

Following the overwhelming success of last year's event, Margaret River’s main street will be temporarily closed to traffic on Thursday, 17 December 2026 and transformed into a vibrant festive precinct to bring people from all corners of the Shire together for an unforgettable evening of entertainment and Christmas cheer.

Acting Shire President Tracey Muir acknowledged the enormous effort required to organise the event and said the Shire was proud to increase its funding to support RMR deliver the Christmas Street Party.

“The RMR Christmas Street Party is so much more than a festive celebration, it’s a celebration of everything that makes our Shire so special and shines a spotlight on our incredible community groups and talented local performers while also supporting local businesses

“Radio Margaret River did an incredible job bringing the Christmas Street Party to life last year and created something that truly is, by the community for the community,” she said.

“Delivering an event of this scale involves a huge amount of work, so we’re delighted to have increased our funding to ensure RMR has the resources they need to deliver another fantastic community-led celebration.

“Supporting events like this aligns with our commitment to work with the community to bring our public spaces to life and create meaningful experiences for residents and visitors alike.”

Radio Margaret River Chair Pauline McLeod said the success of the event was a testament to the people in our community and was grateful for the Shire’s support.

“The RMR Christmas Street Party is a wonderful example of what can happen when people come together and we’ll be calling on everyone to get involved to help us deliver the party of the year.”

“Organising an event of this scale is a huge undertaking, and we simply couldn’t do it without the Shire’s financial backing.”

Ms McLeod said planning was already underway to make the 2026 event even more memorable.

“We want the RMR Christmas Street Party to celebrate in our own unique way and we’ve got some exciting things planned as part of this year’s theme, Many Stories, One Community,” she said.

“Santa has also confirmed he'll be back, arriving once again by helicopter to lead the Street Parade through the heart of Margaret River, which was a real highlight of last year's event.

“Plus, we'll have all the crowd favourites, including live entertainment, late-night shopping, great food, and plenty of family-friendly activities.”
