Shire Transitions to Electric Vehicles

Fleet Cars to be Replaced with EVs

We’re transitioning our fleet cars to electric vehicles (EVs) and have secured federal and state funding for fleet charging stations.

Our Shire has committed to replacing seven existing fleet cars with electric vehicles. We’ll receive five double 22kW AC chargers and one double 75kW DC charger at no cost to ratepayers.

Chargers will be installed in Shire car parks at the depot and administration building in Margaret River.

The Shire will also receive around $100k in funding for the upgrade of the power supply to the depot which will help with future proofing.

It's a great opportunity to demonstrate the advantages of electric vehicles to our community and build confidence in the technology.

Supporting a transition towards low and zero emission vehicles is important so that we can all start sharing in the benefits of cleaner cars that are cheaper to run.

The funding for these charging stations accelerates our transition to electric vehicles which is a key action in our Climate Action Plan.

The charging stations will be supplied with 100% renewable energy from onsite renewable energy generation. This is topped up through a renewable energy agreement covering the energy we use from the grid.

This project is funded by the federal and state government as part of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) Future Fuels Program and is supported by the WA Local Government Association (WALGA).
