Shire Welcomes 10 New Australian Citizens for Refugee Week

Today we welcomed 10 new Australian citizens into our community at a ceremony held in Margaret River with conferees originating from the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Canada and New Zealand.

Our newest citizens joined many others nationwide to become naturalised Australians at special Refugee Week ceremonies held all over the country.

Refugee Week 2023 is celebrated from 18 – 24 June and this year’s theme is Finding Freedom – it promotes harmony and togetherness and is a reminder that regardless of our differences, we all share a common humanity.

Since 1945, Australia has settled more than 950,000 refugees and Refugee Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the positive contributions of our refugee residents and a thriving multicultural region.

Our local community will be enriched through the skills, cultural diversity and hard work of our newest Aussies. Congratulations to our new citizens!
