Shire Welcomes New Citizens on Australian Citizenship Day

New Citizens Welcomed to our Community

An extra special citizenship ceremoney was held this week to coincide with Australian Citizenship Day.

We welcomed 19 new residients with conferees originating from Germany, Philippines, New Zealand, Sweden, Indonesia and Ireland.

The new citizens recited the Australian citizen pledge in the Council Chambers with family and friends in attendance in a ceremony presided over by Shire President Julia Meldrum and Hon Nola Marino MP, Member for Forrest.

Australian Citizenship Day is held on 17 September each year and is an opportunity for local councils to promote this day by holding special citizenship ceremonies and other events.

Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world and since 1949, we have welcomed more than 6 million new citizens.

Welcome and congratulations to our 19 new citizens who have decided to make Australia and our shire their permanent home!

Our community will be enriched through the skills, cultural diversity and hard work of our newest Aussies.
